Mark Miloscia sworn in as 30th District state senator

Mark Miloscia, R-Federal Way, was sworn in as senator for the 30th Legislative District on Monday.

After a lifelong career of service including flying B-52 bombers in the Air Force, teaching for Federal Way Public Schools and the Catholic Archdiocese, as well as seven terms in the state House, Miloscia received the support of voters to represent them in the state Senate.

“It is a true honor to begin my service in the Senate,” Miloscia said. “I take the responsibility very seriously and pledge to provide principled and courageous leadership that delivers results.”

Miloscia’s experience in the House included his chairmanship of the Audit Review and Oversight Committee where he led efforts to improve government efficiency and accountability. Senate leaders recognized his leadership by appointing him chair of the Senate Accountability and Reform Committee to continue his efforts to protect taxpayer dollars and deliver better government results.

“I’ve spent my career making government more accountable and protecting taxpayers from bloated budgets,” Miloscia said. “Washington already has the tools it needs to measure performance and create a culture of continuous improvement — it’s just not using them. My first order of business is to commit our government to standards of excellence and measure the results we produce.”

Miloscia’s first hearing as chair of the Accountability and Reform Committee will evaluate the success of Gov. Jay Inslee to implement Lean management performance systems required by the Legislature.

“I will fight to restore our government’s integrity to our shared values and goals.”

Miloscia has resided in the Federal Way area with his wife Meschell, his three children and his grandchildren for the last 25 years.
