Tracking the grads: Softball and track athletes excelling in college

Lindsey Kay Bright — The 2008 Decatur High School graduate is hitting .351 for the Fordham softball team. The freshman outfielder has started all 57 games and has scored 40 runs, with two doubles, 10 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. The stolen base number is the all-time record at Fordham and already ranks her sixth on the school’s all-time list. Fordham is currently 37-20 on the season.

Bright was a three-time first-team, All-SPSL selection and four-time All-City selection in high school. The Rams are currently playing the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.

Bright was recently named to the Atlantic 10’s All-Rookie Team and was an honorable mention All-Atlantic 10 selection.

Leslie Davis — The Federal Way graduate is playing softball at Montana State-Billings. Currently, Davis is hitting .312 with a team-leading 12 doubles, five home runs and 22 RBIs. She has started 50 games and Montana State-Billings is 39-15. The Yellowjackets are currently playing at the NCAA Divisoin II Softball West Region Championships.

For the second year in a row, Davis was named first-team, All-Greater Northwest Conference. Last year, Davis earned first-team honors as a third baseman. Davis hit .361 and belted a team-high 15 doubles and was one of three players to play and start in all 49 games. Davis tied for the team lead with 57 hits and was second in slugging percentage at .614. She also had seven home runs and 33 RBIs.

Kristi Sigafoos — The 2006 TJ grad is playing her junior year at Saint Martin’s College in Lacey as a second baseman. Sigafoos is currently hitting .250 with nine doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs. She has started 50 games and St. Martin’s is 16-37.

Last year, Sigafoos was named to the All-GNAC honorable mention after she hit .261 with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 23 RBIs. Saint Martin’s finished the season 21-33 overall.

Jade Clare — The 2006 Beamer grad is playing her junior season at Stony Brook University in New York. Clare is a catcher for the Sea Wolves and is hitting .196 with seven doubles, three home runs and 18 RBIs. She has started 40 games and Stony Brook is currently 36-12 and 15-5 in the America East Conference.

Stony Brook is currently playing at the America East Conference Championship Tournament.

Last year, Clare started 44 games during the season. Stony Brook finished the regular season with a 30-21 record.

Kayln Neils — The 2008 Decatur grad is currently hitting .353 for the Green River Gators with three RBIs. Neils is a freshman third baseman and Green River is 9-9 on the season.

Tim Satterwhite — The TJ grad is currently competing on the Western Washington University track and field team. Satterwhite transferred to Western from Texas Southern.

Last year, he finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 46-7 1/4 at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Ellensburg.

Amy Colvin — The TJ grad is competing in her freshman year for the Western Washington track team. Colvin is a pole vaulter.

Christina Gonzales — The TJ grad is a distance runner at Western Washington University.

McKinley Williams — The Todd Beamer graduate is currently running track at Western Washington University. The sophomore is a distance runner.

Amanda Stewart — The Decatur High School grad is competing in her redshirt freshman season at Washington State. Stewart is a high jumper, who finished in the top-six at the state meet every year during high school. Her highest finish was third as a freshman.

Princess Joy Griffey — The 2006 Decatur grad is running on the Washington State track team. Griffey is competing in her junior year for the Cougars and running in sprint events. During the indoor season, she finished third in the 60-meter dash at the MPSF Championships in a time of 7.48.

Last year, she finished 11th in the 100m in a time of 11.72 at the Pac-10 Championships and eighth in the 200 (24.00).

Justin Englund — The 2008 Decatur grad is running track at Washington State University and finished 50th at the Pac-10 Championships in the fall in cross country.

Englund is running the 1600 and 3200 for the Cougar track team.

Ezra John Griffey — The 2008 Decatur grad is competing in his first season for the Washington State track team. Griffey is running the sprint races for the Cougars.

Lionel Orji — Orji, a Thomas Jefferson grad is competing on the Central Washington University track team. He competes in the throws and sprints.
