Tracking the grads: Boys soccer players excelling in college

Kelyn Rowe — The 2010 Federal Way graduate and last year’s state player of the year is impressing early for the 17th-ranked UCLA Bruins. The freshman midfielder scored a pair of goals to give UCLA a 2-0 win over Davidson last week. Rowe has three goals and two assists on the year to lead the Bruins (4-1-1).

Josh Smith — The 2010 Decatur grad has started three games as a freshman for the Oregon State soccer team. The all-state midfielder has helped the Beavers to a 5-1-0 record. He has played in all six games and has one shot.

Chris Miller and Kodey Eley — Miller, a Jefferson grad, and Eley, a Federal Way graduate, are both playing for the Evergreen State Geoducks soccer team. Miller is a junior defender and Eley is a freshman defender. Ely has started all five games and leads the team with two goals. Miller has also started all five matches for the 0-4-1 team.

Ernan Roman, Lalo Morales, Amos Nistrian, Brent VanWechel, Austin Egerton and Lenin Ramirez — The six district graduates are all playing at Highline Community College. Roman, Nistrian, Egerton and Ramirez are all TJ grads, Morales went to Federal Way and VanWechel is a Beamer grad. Egerton has three goals for the Thunderbirds and Nistrian has one. Highline is 3-1-0 on the year.

Brennen Hall — The Todd Beamer graduate is currently playing at Pacific Lutheran University. Hall is a senior and transferred from Highline CC, where he was a two-time NWAACC all star. He has started six games this season as a midfielder. PLU is 2-4-1 on the season and has one assists and five shots.

Murphy Campbell — The Federal Way High School graduate is playing his junior season at Santa Clara University. The midfielder has started five matches for the Broncos this season and has one assist. Santa Clara is 2-4-0 on the season.

TJ Young, Ricco Sanchez and Erik Orozco — The threesome are playing at St. Martin’s University. Young and Sanchez are both Beamer grads and Orozco went to Decatur. Young has started two games this season in goal and Sanchez and Orozco have started all five St. Martin’s matches in the midfield. St. Martin’s is 2-3-0 on the season.

Tyler Hanson — The TJ grad is playing his sophomore season at Seattle University. The midfielder has started one match for the Redhawks and has one goal. Seattle U is currently 2-3-1.
