Girls basketball holiday season power rankings in South King County

During this break in athletics for the holiday season, it’s time to analyze how the local girls basketball teams rank against one another so far. The rankings are initially based on data of overall records, league records, common opponents, points per game, points allowed and margin of victory.

Tahoma (5-1)

Best win: Auburn 59-17

The opening schedule for the Bears has been pretty light, but taking down a state qualifying team by 42 gives them the No. 1 spot.

Kentridge (6-1)

Best win: Thomas Jefferson

The Chargers have the second highest margin of victory and the three non-conference wins.

Kennedy Catholic (3-0)

Best win: Kentlake 53-20

Defensively the Lancers have only given up more than 30 points one game. Their offense and defense have played well to open up the season.

Kentwood (4-1)

Best win: Todd Beamer 60-25

The Conquerors came into a match up with Todd Beamer on Dec. 15 and had a convincing victory over the Titans. The win, combined with one loss to an undefeated Lake Washington bumped KW over Decatur.

Decatur (6-2)

Best win: Kent Meridian 81-15

The difference between Decatur and the rest of the teams in front is the loss to AC Davis out of Yakima. But they are still undefeated in league play.

Todd Beamer (4-2)

Best win: Mount Rainier 58-51

Todd Beamer was formerly undefeated, but has now lost two straight. Beamer has a chance to make up ground with Tahoma and Kennedy out of the break.

Auburn Mountainview (3-3)

Best win: Mount Rainier 50-48

Mountainview has played many close games this year. The one win was a two-point win over Mount Rainier, and they have the best loss against Kentwood among teams with their same record.

Mount Rainier (3-2)

Best win: Thomas Jefferson 66-33

The Rams could easily be 5-0 this season with a two point loss to Auburn Mountainview and a seven point loss to Todd Beamer. The Rams have an opportunity to get out to a great start in the new year as well.

Auburn Riverside (2-6)

Best win: Federal Way 48-45

With a first year head coach the Ravens beat Auburn for their first win of the season. Their first conference win was against the Eagles stopping a two game skid.

Federal Way (1-2)

Best win: Kent Meridian 53-22

A two game losing streak began the Eagles 2022 season, but a win against KM has the Eagles on the right track.

Auburn (1-4)

Best win: Foss 63-13

Auburn has gotten off to a slow start, their win came in the first game of the year. Since then the Trojans have averaged just 23 points.

Kentlake (0-4)

Best game: 66-46 L Mount Rainier

Of the teams with no wins, the Falcons have the highest points per game average with 33.

Kent Meridian (0-5)

Best game: 41-43 L vs. Lindbergh

KM also has had a brutal schedule to start the season. Starting after the break doesn’t get easier for the Royals as they start with Mt. Rainier and Tahoma in January.

Thomas Jefferson (0-4)

Best win: 62-33 L vs Mount. Rainier

TJ has had the most difficult start to the season in the league. They have scored more than 30 points in two of their three games, but had a stinker against Tahoma where they scored 16.
