Decatur softball celebrates first 10-win season in 50 years

NPSL All-League 4A softball honors recently announced.

For the first time in 50 years, Decatur High School’s softball team celebrated a 10-win season.

Decatur ended the 2021 season 10-4 and with a list of first-time accomplishments for the team.

A 10-win season is a historical feat and a box that needed to be checked, said fourth-year head coach Mike David. David also coaches girls soccer and girls bowling at Decatur.

“It was a monkey on Decatur’s back that we definitely needed to get off,” he said of the winning streak. “We had a great year.”

This season marked the first time since 2000 that Decatur has won a playoff game. The first time the Gators beat Auburn Riverside since Riverside was opened in 1995. The first time Decatur swept Thomas Jefferson (6-7) and Federal Way (4-11) in the same year.

The 2021 season was also the first time Decatur softball has ever ranked in the Top 25 4A schools, landing in 13th place during the season.

The North Puget Sound League recently announced the 4A All-League softball selections.
