Beamer’s Johnson, Decatur’s Beyke will lead a large group to state golf championships

Broc Johnson and Amanda Beyke had an impressive couple of rounds Wednesday and Thursday at the South Puget Sound League Golf Tournament at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Gorst.

Johnson, a Beamer senior, will lead a group of five Federal Way school district boys to the Class 4A state championships in the spring. The group includes four Beamer golfers, along with Jefferson senior Erik Jarvey. Johnson finished second behind Puyallup’s Vinny Murphy with a two-day total of 145. Johnson, who finished second at the 2008 state tournament, followed a first-round 75 with a 70 on Thursday.

Murphy finished with a two-round total of 141 to win the tournament. The top-19 finishers advanced to May’s state championships.

Johnson will be joined at the state tournament by Jarvey, who finished in a tie for ninth with a two-round 155, and Beamer teammates Quinn Milligan (ninth, 155), Michael Manolides (13th, 156) and Campbell Flewelling (16th, 158).

Beyke, a Decatur senior, topped a group of six state-bound Federal Way district girls during the SPSL tournament by finishing in third place. Beyke, who has played in the past two state tournaments, shot a two-day total of 150 at Gold Mountain. Beyke followed a first-round 77 with a 73 on Thursday. Kentridge’s Lauren Sewell blew away the field with a 141.

Decatur senior Stacy Blunt qualified for state after finishing in fifth place after rounds of 85 and 72 at Gold Mountain and Jefferson’s Alexus Song was sixth with a two-day total of 158 (80-78).

Other Federal Way school district state qualifiers were Decatur’s Samantha Zeeb (ninth, 178), Federal Way’s Emily Victor (11th, 179) and TJ’s Sarah Yu (15th, 183).
