Area soccer players excel on the field

Lamar Neagle — The 2005 TJ grad is playing his senior season at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The forward finished third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in points last year with 20 (nine goals, two assists). He currently leads the Rebels with seven goals this season in 12 games. UNLV is currently 7-4-1 on the year.

Josh Norwood — The Decatur grad is playing his junior season at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Norwood played his freshman season at the University of Connecticut, before transferring. The midfielder has started three matches and has one assist. Charlotte is currently 9-3-0 on the season.

Kelsey Lusebrink, Whitney Lynch and Brittany McKay — The threesome are all playing at Highline Community College. Lusebrink is a Decatur grad, Lynch went to Beamer and McKay graduated from TJ.

Jenna Peterson and Brittany Orr — The two 2008 graduates are both playing at Concordia University in Oregon. Peterson graduated from Decatur and Orr attended Beamer. Peterson has started 12 matches as a defender and Orr has started 11 in the midfield and has tallied two goals and three assists. Concordia is unbeaten at 12-0-1 on the season.

Nicole Peterson — The 2008 Beamer graduate is currently playing at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. Peterson has started eight matches and has one assist and 11 shots. Seton Hall is currently 5-7-2 overall.

Sara Byrne — The 2008 TJ grad has started 13 games at Eastern Washington and has two assists. Eastern is currently 2-8-3 overall

Jordann Gilmer — The Decatur grad is playing her sophomore season at Western Oregon University. Gilmer has played in 13 matches this season and has one goal and one assist. Western Oregon is currently 5-7-1 overall.

Michelle Borth — The TJ grad is currently playing at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Borth has started five matches and has four shots on goal. The team is currently 2-12-1 on the season.

Mel Hicks — The TJ grad is currently playing her sophomore season at the University of Colorado. Hicks has played in all 14 matches and has two goals for the Buffaloes. Colorado is currently 10-2-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in the Big 12 Conference.

Hannah Bridges, Michelle Mohn, Amy Pate and Kendall Swynenberg — The foursome are all currently playing at Central Washington University. Bridges is a Federal Way grad and the other four all went to Jefferson. Bridges has started all 12 matches for Central and has one goal and one assist. Pate has started one match and Mohn and Swynenberg have also played in matches. Central is currently 6-4-2 overall on the season.

Mandy Ploskonka — The senior is playing midfield at Montana State-Billings after graduating from Federal Way High School. Ploskonka has started 12 matches and has one goal and four assists. Montana State-Billings is currently 7-6-0 on the season.

Kaitlyn Keyes — The 2008 Federal Way grad is playing her freshman year on the Montana State-Billings soccer team. Keyes is a midfielder and has played in seven matches.

Kristen Johnson — The Decatur grad is the starting goalkeeper for the Sweet Briar College (Va.) soccer team. Johnson eclipsed the 200-save mark last season with 216.

Jordan Salisbury — The 2008 Beamer grad is playing her freshman season at Seattle University as a defender. She has started all 12 of their matches this season. Seattle U is currently 7-2-3 on the season.

Kaitlin Bennett — The Beamer graduate is playing her junior season at Mesa State in Colorado. Bennett is a goalkeeper and has started six games this season and is allowing 1.08 goals a game. Mesa State is currently 9-6-0 on the year.

Bre Klasen and Cayla Dixon — The pair are playing for Saint Martin’s University in Lacey. Klasen is a Decatur grad and and Dixon went to Federal Way. Klasen, a senior, has started one match and has one goal and Dixon, a sophomore, has started every match as a defender. Saint Martin’s is currently 4-7-1 overall.

Bree Rowe — The 2007 Federal Way grad is currently playing at the University of Oregon. The sophomore midfielder played in four games as a freshman. This season she has played in 10 matches and has five shots on goal. The Ducks are currently 7-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the Pac-10.
