TJ students helped many

During a time when we hear lots of negative news coming from high schools, I would like to make note of the positive things our local students are doing.

I recently had the opportunity to work with Thomas Jefferson High School students, along with their leader Monica Watchie, as they organized and held a blood drive.

The blood drive at Thomas Jefferson was a success in so many ways: 79 students registered to donate their blood, and 33 were first-time donors. We collected enough blood to help save the lives of over 180 people in our community.

Not only have lives been saved by the actions of some impressive heroes, these students are learning the life skills of caring, self sacrifice and compassion, and for that they should be commended.

These students and staff need to be thanked for their hard work on this project, which has a life-long impact on so many. A miracle in our neighborhood.

Way to go, Thomas Jefferson High School.
