James Walter Whisenhunt | Obituary

September 20, 1962 – January 23, 2024

James Walter Whisenhunt was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 20, 1962 to Andrew and Martha Whisenhunt. He passed away suddenly on January 23, 2024, from heart disease.

James (Jim to most who knew him) is survived by his wife Ilana Sharon Whisenhunt, his sons James Whisenhunt, Cameron Whisenhunt, Eldar Sharon and their respective spouses and partners. He is survived by his siblings Jo Ann Borden, Faye Marvel, Fred Whisenhunt, their spouses, 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his son Nicholas.

James worked for Sysco Northwest in Kent, Washington for the past 34 years. He was a dedicated team member and was always up for the challenges coming his way.

Jim’s love of the outdoors meant you might find him out fishing in Puget Sound or Eastern Washington, hunting at Bonaparte or in Idaho, clamming on the Southwest Washington beaches or kayaking on local lakes. When Jim was not outdoors, you might find him and his wife, Ilana, tending the garden and canning the fruits of their labor, be it peaches, beans, homemade pickles and salsas, and numerous other yummy treats. He never hesitated to arrive at someone’s home with a jar of one of his home canned specialties or a dozen eggs from the backyard chickens.

Jim will be forever missed by his family, friends, coworkers and last, but not least, his beloved dogs Rockwell and Braxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to your local animal shelter/rescue in his memory.
