Elvin Burgess

Elvin Agusta Burgess Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, with his wife at his side. He was born on Jan. 30, 1932, in Dubach, Louisiana, to Rev. and Mrs. Elvin Burgess, Sr.
Elvin graduated from Nurnberg American High School, Germany, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and attained his Administrative Credentials in Education at the University of Washington.
Retirement after 20 years as an Air Force Officer, he taught Air Force JROTC in Michigan and England before moving to Federal Way in 1977 where he taught in the Federal Way School District for another 18 years. He is the beloved husband of Janice Landerdahl whom he married on October 24, 1953. Their home was blessed with daughter Janine and Jack Van Dusen, son Elvin and Kathleen Burgess, daughter Janell and Justin Edwards and grandchildren Kevin, Rob, John, Gage, Rachel, Ashley, Jacob, Elijah, Emma, James, Solomon, and Reed. He also leaves his sister Elinor Taylor and numerous family and friends.
Burial will be at Tahoma National Cemetery with full military honors. Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #1 – Seattle, P.O. Box 66949, Seattle, WA 98166 which supports local Veteran Programs. Everyone will remember him as the only person they ever knew who had a joke for every occasion. Heaven became a joyous place.
