Barbara (Wilson) Wamba | Obituary

Barbara was born in Iowa City, Iowa on July 24, 1942, to parents Adrian Wilson and Janice (Flynn) Wilson.

Barbara grew up on the family farm in West Liberty, Iowa, living there until high school graduation when she followed her sister to Seattle, working as a medical claims-examiner.

Barbara loved the outdoors and was a 50+ year member of the Mountaineers where she met kindred spirit, Phil Wamba. They were married February 29, 1964.

Upon Phil’s completion of the GE management program, they moved to GE facilities in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where two daughters were born, Gail and Katrina (Kat).

The family left GE, moving to Federal Way, WA when Phil joined Boeing in 1973.

Phil and Barbara raised their family with a love of the outdoors, hiking, skiing, sailing, and travel in the US and Canada.

Barbara was a longtime Totem Council Girl Scout leader, becoming a caterer when their daughters were grown. Barbara loved the opportunity to meet people and prepare food.

She was an active, longtime member of Wayside United Church of Christ.

Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Barbara had an eight-year struggle with dementia until her death October 26, 2022.

Barbara, preceded in death by her parents and siblings Suzanne and Kirk, is survived by husband Phil, daughter Gail, her husband Josh Kibbey, daughter Kat, grandson Rowan Church, his wife Allison, and great-grandson Taran.

The family thanks Aegis of Kent for Barbara’s five years of kind, thoughtful care.

A memorial service will be Saturday, November 19th, 1pm at Wayside United Church of Christ, Federal Way.
