WAVE Scholarship and Washington Aerospace scholarship winners

WAVE Scholarship: Ariel Smith, a Todd Beamer High School student enrolled in the Fashion Design and Marketing program with Puget Sound Skills Center, was recently awarded the 2010 Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) Scholarship from the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board. The WAVE program honors three vocational students from each of the 49 state legislative districts for outstanding achievement in vocational/technical education. Students can use the grants at public two-year and four-year colleges and universities and accredited private colleges, universities and vocational schools in Washington. Ariel was also awarded a paid internship with Nordstrom Product Design Group for the summer.

Washington Aerospace summer residency scholars: Five students from Federal Way will participate this summer in the Washington Aerospace Scholar Summer Residency program. Alison Erickson of Thomas Jefferson High School, Matthew Chun of Federal Way Senior High School, Kara Samac of Thomas Jefferson High School, Daniel Gonzales of Thomas Jefferson High School and Jonathan Mount of Thomas Jefferson High School are among 160 high school juniors from across the state whose academic performance earned them a spot in the program. The students will work cooperatively to plan a human mission to Mars with support from professional engineers/scientists, university students, and certificated educators.
