Volunteers help beautify Federal Way on Parks Appreciation Day

Saturday marked the 19th annual Parks Appreciation Day in Federal Way.

Over 100 volunteers helped clean up and beautify grounds around the city on April 22, including at Town Square and the Hylebos Blueberry Farm.

Volunteers weeded, planted tree and blueberry plants, spread gravel, picked up trash, trimmed and mowed, said Shelley Pauls of the local nonprofit We Love Our City.

Federal Way’s South King Tool Library supplied extra tools and helping hands. Members of the Latter-Day Saints Church, who started the went years ago, also tended to the projects on Saturday. Additional groups who volunteered on Saturday include Stand Up, We Love Our City, Brooklake Church, students, and community members.

Parks Appreciation Day is held in coordination with Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22 that is an annual, global event to increase awareness of environmental concerns.
