Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, Seattle Seahawks to host online event tackling breast cancer disparities

Online awareness event hosted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16.

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and the Seattle Seahawks are hosting an online event Oct. 16 to discuss disparities among breast cancer patients.

The online awareness event, “Tackling Breast Cancer Disparities,” is at 10 a.m. Oct. 16 on Zoom. Sponsored by the Seattle Seahawks and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, the event is held in partnership with Cierra Sisters and the Washington State Radiological Society.

The 60-minute virtual event for national Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October is for anyone interested in learning about early detection screenings, including mammograms.

In addition to representatives from VMFH, guest speakers include Karen Wilkins-Mickey, Seattle Seahawks’ vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion; and Bridgette Hempstead, CEO of Cierra Sisters, a community organization supporting breast cancer survivors.

A panel of physicians and clinicians specializing in women’s health and breast cancer treatment will share information and answer questions about breast cancer disparities and the importance of screening.
