Truck fire closes Highway 18

All occupants are safe, according to Washington State Patrol.

Both directions of Highway 18 are shut down after a semi-truck and a pick-up truck collided then caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.

South King Fire and Rescue crews responded to the fire around 1:30 p.m. on July 6 along SR 18 and east of Interstate 5 between Federal Way and Auburn.

The collision was between a semi-truck and a pick-up truck, and both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

All vehicle occupants were reported safe with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson.

Crews were able to establish a water supply almost 2,000 feet away to finish extinguishing the flames.

Crews have shut down Highway 18 in both directions between I-5 and Weyerhaeuser Way. Avoid the area and expect long delays.
