From staff reports:

Non-profit organizations holding events in 2013 in Federal Way are now eligible to apply for “tourism enhancement grants” (TEGs) from the city.

Events that received grant funding from the TEG program in 2012 included Federal Way Symphony’s “Mostly Modern” concert, CenterStage Theatre’s production of “Cinderella,” Desna Soccer Club’s Desna Cup, and the MOSAIC Slavic Culture Festival.

Applications for TEGs are being accepted until March 29, will be reviewed in April. Grants will be awarded in May.

According to the city, TEGs are aimed at “the promotion of cultural, arts, sports and community events as well as non-event programs that will enhance tourism activities in Federal Way.”

This will be the first round of grants awarded, with a total of $45,000 available to groups interested. Up to $5,000 of any given grant can be put toward non-event uses, according to the city.

Funds will be awarded based on these criteria:

• Eligible organizations: Non-profit 501c organizations, or Washington municipal organizations that plan, sponsor or host eligible events or non-event programs.

• Eligible activities: Amateur sporting, arts/cultural events, membership meetings, training, exhibitions and conferences or other events that will bring participants to Federal Way. The city notes that “non-event” programs that enhance tourism activities are eligible.

• Eligible costs: Grants can be used for securing, marketing and producing eligible activities (events and non-event programs).
