1 dead, 3 injured in shooting at Steel Lake Park

A 17-year-old boy died at the scene, police have detained a potential suspect.

One teen is dead and three other people were injured in a shooting at Steel Lake Park in Federal Way on Monday night.

Around 9:15 p.m. July 27, several people called 911 to report hearing gunshots and yelling at Steel Lake Park, said Casey Jones of the Federal Way Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers found two people who had been shot.

Despite medical aid, a 17-year-old boy died at the scene and the other victim, a 22-year-old man, was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Jones said.

During this timeframe, St. Francis Hospital called police to report a third victim, a 12-year-old boy, had been driven to the hospital and had not life-threatening injuries.

After 11 p.m., a fourth person, a 30-year-old man, contacted police to report that he had been shot. His injuries were not life-threatening.

All of the shooting victims are residents of Tacoma.

Officers received information that allowed them to detain a potential suspect, a 28-year-old woman from Tacoma.

Federal Way detectives are actively investigating the case.
