Suspect dead and two Federal Way police officers shot in dispute

Police say officers are in stable condition, suspect deceased on scene.

A male suspect is dead and two Federal Way police officers are recovering after being shot while responding to a dispute on Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the call at an apartment complex in the 30800 block of 14th Ave. S. around 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 31.

They contacted a male subject in a vehicle in the parking lot and shortly after, a shooting occurred, according to Federal Way police Cmdr. Kurt Schwan.

At this time, it is unclear what circumstances led to the shooting, he noted.

“The suspect was shot and is deceased,” Schwan stated. “Two Federal Way police officers were shot …”

The officers were transported to St. Francis Hospital and Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the results of an independent investigation by the Valley Investigative Team, he noted.
