Teen hit in crosswalk: At 7:10 a.m. on Dec. 17 in the South 304th Street and Pacific Highway South intersection, a 20-year-old driver struck a 17-year-old student in a crosswalk. The student was heading west across Pacific Highway as the driver made a left-hand turn. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and his or her parents were notified. The driver was cited for being unlicensed and uninsured.

Mail stolen from community mailboxes: At 12:59 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the 35900 block of 18th Court SW, a man reported that he suspected someone of stealing the mail from the community mailboxes. The man had no witnesses or leads, so police told him to watch his credit and bank accounts for identity theft or suspicious activity.

Man steals two beers: At 12:52 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the 31800 block of Pacific Highway S., a man was arrested for shoplifting two beers at AM/PM. Police located one beer can but not the other. He resisted arrest for stealing $3.78 worth of beer.

Confusion over Craigslist chainsaw: At 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the 34800 block of Pacific Highway S., a 21-year-old man called police to report a 36-year-old man from Craigslist had stolen his chainsaw and had a gun. The younger man was trying to sell his chainsaw on Craigslist and had met up with an interested buyer. Police stopped the suspected chainsaw thief but heard a different story: The seller said he hadn’t received all of his money he was selling the chainsaw for and had only gotten $40 but the buyer gave him $200 and the transaction was complete. Police were unable to determine who was lying and if the seller was trying to pocket the money or if the buyer had handed him the wrong amount of money. Ultimately, police determined it was a civil issue and no one was arrested.

MudBay window damaged: At 6:32 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the 1700 block of S. 320th St., a strip mall maintenance worker discovered the front business window of MudBay destroyed. The window is valued at $1,150. After reporting the damage to police, officers determined no one entered the store, which employees confirmed as they arrived.

Woman finds mail scattered: At 10:07 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the Cedardale Apartment complex, a woman reported finding numerous pieces of unopened and opened mail all around the apartment complex. With no suspect or witnesses, police closed the case. However, all of the affected mail was delivered to the U.S. Post Office on 1900 SW Campus Drive.

Man steals package: At 10:48 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the 32800 block of Eighth Court SW, a woman witnessed a man steal a package from her doorway. She described the man as white, in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, medium build and wearing all black with a black stocking cap. She said he took a small white box, fled on foot around her house and disappeared. She attempted to locate him by getting in her car and driving around but lost sight of him.

Woman’s car interior catches on fire: At 12:52 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the 1600 block of S. 374th Court, a woman reported her maroon 2009 Mazda had caught on fire. The fire could have started between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. but had extinguished itself hours prior, as police noted the car’s exterior was cold to the touch. The interior was heavily damaged on the driver’s side, the report states.

Man steals from Walmart: At 1:07 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the 34500 block of 16th Ave. S., a man was arrested for being a part of a fraud scheme. The police report states two suspects stole an item from Walmart, while the other suspect came to return the stolen item for cash or in-store credit.

Teen girls steal from Sears: At 1:58 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the 1700 block of S. Commons, two 17-year-old girls stole intimate apparel at Sears. They concealed the merchandise in their purses and clothing before walking out without paying. The shoplifted items cost about $95 total and formal charges are pending.

Man reports mail stolen: At 5:21 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the 30300 block of Sixth Ave. SW, a man called 911 to report his mail stolen from his mailbox. The victim could not identify specific mail that was stolen.

Man, woman arrested for stolen car, heroin: At 5:47 a.m. on Dec. 15 in the 33100 block of Pacific Highway S., a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were arrested for possessing a woman’s stolen vehicle. The two were also caught with possessing heroin and plastic drug paraphernalia.

Father reports bipolar daughter missing: At 8:08 a.m. on Dec. 15 in the 2200 block of S. 287th St., a father reported his daughter missing since Dec. 9. He said she is bipolar and has not been taking her medication for a couple of months. He said she also uses methamphetamine and marijuana and she’s been suicidal. However, there were no indications she was suicidal at the time of her disappearance.

Couple arrested for heroin possession: At 1:57 p.m. on Dec. 15 in the 4000 block of S. 329th St., police arrested a couple in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. They found the man and woman in a vehicle. When police asked to see their identification, the woman lied and gave a false name. She was also charged with providing a false statement to police.

Man’s mailbox pried open: At 4:48 p.m. on Dec. 15 in the 29300 block of 13th Ave. S., a man reported approximately five days worth of mail stolen. He discovered this when he saw his locked mailbox pried open and all of his mail missing.

Burglars steal $1,700 worth of items: At 12:28 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 1900 block of S. 368th Place, a woman returned home from work to find her house ransacked. She said there were several items missing, valued at $1,700. Police investigated the home but found no signs of forced entry, only an open small front window in the living room.

‘Super high’ man calls police: At 12:43 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 34500 block of 16th Ave. S., a man called police because he was “super high” on marijuana, sleeping pills and vodka. Police determined he was hallucinating about a “huge fight and his car being towed from Walmart.” The report states the car was towed while he was checking eight cars for his maroon over green Honda. Police noted he wasn’t acting as though he was on depressants, as he was alert and hallucinating. During the investigation, he also admitted to police that he’s previously attempted suicide. Police checked previous 911 call records and discovered other reports of a man trying to get into several cars that didn’t belong to him.

Drunk driver backs into pole: A 1:48 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 2200 block of SW 356th St., a driver was arrested for DUI. Police witnessed a silver Volkswagon Passat back out of a parking space in front of the Hitching Post bar and back into a wood power telephone pole.

Passengers assault taxi cab driver: At 3:52 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 2200 block of S. 320th St., police arrested two men and one woman for assaulting a taxi cab driver. The driver picked up the group in Queen Anne and was told to drive to Kent. However, the group changed their mind and decided they wanted to go to Green River in Auburn. The driver told police the passengers were rowdy and made racial comments, calling him names. Because of this, the driver told the passengers to get out of his cab and take another taxi. The driver exited the cab because he was scared and three of the passengers started to throw punches at his face and head, causing him pain. The three also damaged the interior of the cab.

Man assaults apartment security guard: At 5:02 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 2200 block of SW 334th Place, a man was assaulted by an unknown white male described as thin, 5-feet, 6-inches tall, in his 20s and wearing a green sweatshirt and jeans. The man was working as a security guard at Parkway Apartments when the man approached him and tried selling the guard marijuana. The security guard responded that it wasn’t allowed on the premises and to leave. The suspect started to walk off the property but then turned around and confronted the guard. As the argument escalated, the security guard deployed pepper spray and the man fled on foot to the nearby Auto Zone. The guard saw a car pull up to the suspect but it’s unknown whether he got in. Police searched Auto Zone but couldn’t find the suspect.
