State appeals judgment in public education funding

From staff reports:

The State of Washington filed notice that it intends to appeal a decision that would increase funding for public schools. In February, a King County judge ruled in McCleary vs. State that the State of Washington is failing in its constitutional duty to adequately fund public education. The state recently filed notice that it intends to appeal that decision. The case will be heard in the state Supreme Court, likely in September. While the Federal Way School District is not a direct member of the lawsuit, the district is a member of the Network for Excellence in Washington Schools (NEWS) organization, along with many school districts in the state, and did put up some money for the lawsuit.
