Police respond to standoff situation following hit-and-run

Suspect barricaded himself in residence in 28100 block of 28th Avenue South.

Hostage negotiators were working on Wednesday evening to take a hit-and-run suspect into custody after he barricaded himself in a residence in the 28100 block of 29th Avenue South in Federal Way.

At 11:36 a.m. police officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run collision near Military Road South and South 282nd Street. Witnesses reported the man driving fled on foot, and the female passenger was detained by officers at the collision scene, Federal Way police reported.

The male suspect attempted to steal a vehicle from and then entered a nearby residence in the 28100 block of 29th Avenue South and refused to exit, police reported. No one else was inside the residence.

Valley SWAT and Valley Hostage Negotiators were on scene assisting in taking the suspect into custody.
