Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Detective’s wallet recovered: At 11:25 a.m. on Dec.29 in the 33000 block of 8th Ave. S., a man returned a wallet belonging to a Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) detective to police headquarters. According to the report, the man was somewhat evasive about how he came to be in possession of the wallet, but was allowed to leave after an officer on duty spoke with him.

Mailbox break-in: At 12:57 p.m. on Dec. 29 in the 32000 block of 43rd Place SW, residents reported a community mailbox had been pried open. According to the report, one resident’s mail was stolen, but most of it was later recovered when a fellow resident discovered it strewn in the roadway nearby.

Bike thief nabbed: At 6:25 p.m. on Dec. 29 in the 32000 block of 11th Ave. S., two people were inside their residence when they heard a noise outside. The residents observed two suspects stealing their bicycles. The report notes the victims were able to apprehend one of the suspects and recover a bicycle.

Paraphernalia on elevator: At 12:05 a.m. on Dec. 28 in the 32000 block of 25th Ave. S., a hotel employee discovered drug paraphernalia for the use of heroin in one of the hotel’s elevators. According to the report, the paraphernalia was turned over to police for disposal.

Shot fired: At 1:46 a.m. on Dec. 28 in the 2000 block of SW Campus Drive, an unknown male fired a shot at a vehicle’s occupants after a verbal argument between the occupants and the unknown male and his associates. The report notes the vehicle was struck by the shot, but no one sustained any injuries.

Bowling ball with mysterious message: At 11:02 a.m. on Dec. 28 in the 34000 block of Second Lane S., a woman reported that unknown suspects had smashed out the rear window of her vehicle by throwing a bowling ball through the window. According to the report, the bowling ball had a note attached that read “You Can Thank Tina!” The report notes the victim doesn’t know anyone named Tina.

Attempted alcohol theft: At 4:27 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the 2200 block of S. Commons, a woman was caught attempting to steal approximately $67 worth of alcohol. According to the report, the woman attempted to give a false name to police and loss prevention officers.

Suicidal person: At 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the 1300 block of SW 353rd St., a woman known to the reporting party showed up at his front door. According to the report, the woman was suicidal and had a gun in her possession. At some point, the woman fired a shot from the gun, but did not injure herself. The report notes the woman fled the scene before police arrival. The police did an area check and found that no one had been harmed by the shot.

Car attacked for honking: At 4:12 a.m. on Dec. 27 in the 28000 block of Pacific Highway S., two suspects, unknown to the victim, hit, keyed and kicked the victim’s car. According to the report, the suspects did this after the victim honked at them for standing in the roadway. The report notes the two suspects were extremely intoxicated.

Panhandler raises concerns among motorists: At 5:46 p.m. on Dec. 27 at the South 320th/I-5 off-ramp, it was reported that a panhandler had an infant with him while standing on the side of the road. According to the report, the man left the area when police initially approached him, but was able to be located shortly thereafter in a nearby area. The report notes the child appeared to be in good health and was properly dressed and the man was not charged with any crime.
