One man dies in collision with tow truck

Early investigation finds tow truck made left turn in front of two-door sedan; tow truck driver uninjured.

A 27-year-old man died in a collision with a tow truck on Thursday evening, according to police.

Just before 7 p.m. Sept. 2, Federal Way officers responded to multiple reports of a serious injury collision in the 4300 block of SW 320th Street, according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of Federal Way Police.

Officers and South King Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on scene at the same time and immediately provided medical attention to the 27-year-old driver, who was the only occupant of one of the involved vehicles, Schwan said. The driver died at the scene.

Early information indicates the driver of a tow truck was westbound on SW 320th Street at 43rd Place SW when the driver — a 24-year-old man — made a left turn in front of a two-door sedan traveling eastbound on SW 320th Street, Schwan said.

The driver of the tow truck was uninjured. Intoxication is not believed to be involved in the collision, Schwan said.

Eastbound SW 320th Street is currently closed to through traffic while Federal Way’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) conducts an investigation. Schwan said he is not able to comment on if speed was a factor until the MAIT has completed their investigation.
