Shooting suspect pleads not guilty
Glenn C. Proctor, 20, pleaded not guilty Feb. 25 to second-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Darrel Miller, who died from a gunshot wound Jan. 18 at the Federal Way Transit Center.
Miller was not the intended recipient of the bullet, according to charging papers.
Proctor had aimed the weapon at a male acquaintance, who in the summer of 2007 he had engaged with in a fight, reports said. The man avoided the bullet, which then hit and killed Miller, reports said.
Proctor is currently in King County jail in Seattle on $1 million bail.

FW teens charged in girl’s rape
Four South King County residents are under arrest and charged with raping a 16-year-old Bellevue girl. Bellevue and King County police arrested the four after tracking them down when they bragged about their actions on a MySpace social networking Web site.
Two of those charged are from Federal Way, one from Kent and one from Renton. The four all were 17 at the time of the alleged attack. One has since turned 18. The county prosecutor’s office is considering charging the four as adults, but has not yet made that determination.
According to paperwork filed with the prosecutor’s office, the investigation began on Nov. 18, 2007, with a 911 call from the victim’s mother. The victim stated she had been picked up by friends that she met or communicated with on MySpace.
Initially she had a female friend with her, but when her friend went home she was alone in the vehicle with the four males. They allegedly provided her with alcohol, and when she was intoxicated, stopped on a darkened street in the Eastgate area.
According to the affidavits, all four males raped the victim in the back of the car they had been traveling in. Afterward, the victim said she was dropped her off near her home, incoherent, intoxicated and injured. When her mother called police, she was taken to Overlake Medical Center for examination and treatment.
Bellevue detectives were able to partially identify two of the suspects based on information from the victim and their MySpace account profiles. A search warrant was served to obtain chat logs and other data from MySpace.
According to detectives, communication between the two identified suspects and the previously unidentified third and fourth suspects showed them discussing the rapes, bragging about it to others, planning to try again with other victims, and threatening the victim if she talked to police.
Police say this and evidence obtained later serving search warrants on the suspects’ houses led to the identification of the other suspects. The suspects were arrested over a four-day span earlier last month, after Bellevue SWAT and detectives, aided by King County.

Update on school board:
The shape of the Federal Way School Board changed last week as board members took on new roles to replace outgoing board president Dave Larson. Larson will take a position as Federal Way Municipal Court judge.
Ed Barney will become the new school board president. Suzanne Smith will become the vice president. Amye Bronson-Doherty will be the legislative representative for the board. Board members plan to consider applications for another member on March 5.
