Performing arts center funds

A public State Senate hearing will be conducted on the Public Facility District tool, which could allow Federal Way to gather state funding to assist in building a performing arts center. The hearing is at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in Hearing Room 4 in the John A. Cherberg Building in the state capitol in Olympia.

Sen. Tracey Eide, D- 30th District, introduced a bill this session that would extend the date by which cities receiving the money must break ground on their construction projects between July 1, 2008, to July 1, 2009. If the bill passes, it would allow Federal Way more time to prepare for the construction of a desired performing arts center.

The city is organizing carpools for anyone who wishes to attend. E-mail Scott Pingel at scott.pingel@cityoffederalway.com.
