Motorcyclist dies after Federal Way crash that closed Pacific Highway | Update

A 31-year-old Federal Way man whose motorcycle collided with a car on Pacific Highway South on Saturday morning later died of his injuries.

Federal Way police responded to the collision at approximately 9:56 a.m. at the intersection of South 279th Street and Pacific Highway South.

A 79-year-old Des Moines driver entered the highway southbound from South 279th Street, when the motorcyclist, William Pleau, traveling in the same direction had just changed lanes from the HOV lane to the inside lane, according to the Federal Way police report. The car driver moved directly into the inside lane and collided with the motorcycle, forcing him into the median and the northbound lanes of Pacific Highway South.

A northbound vehicle struck the motorcyclist after he was thrown from his vehicle, the report continues. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Federal Way’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded and closed all northbound lanes of Pacific Highway South and southbound was limited to one lane near the collision for several hours during the investigation.

No impairment or criminal charges were apparent, according to the report.
