Mirror earns General Excellence, best editorial page honors at WNPA awards

Sound Publishing Inc. newspapers collected 155 awards — more than a quarter of the total — at the state’s Better Newspaper Contest, held in conjunction with the 122nd annual convention of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association. Winners were announced at the awards dinner Oct. 2 in Olympia.

The Federal Way Mirror won second place in the General Excellence category for its circulation group. The Mirror also won first place for best editorial page, along with second place in the crime and court reporting category for the story “Investigation exposes flaws in transit center’s video surveillance” by Andy Hobbs and Jacinda Howard. On the advertising side, The Mirror earned first place for best multiple advertiser with its monthly senior lifestyles spread, and won second place for best special section for its St. Francis Hospital section.
