Abandoned, broken mailbox found: At 5:15 a.m. on April 11 in the 2500 block of South 317th Street, police located an abandoned mailbox in a parking lot. The mailbox, originally located at the business lot at 2020 S. 320th St., was damaged on the bottom where the box had been broken from the ground. A central lock on the mailbox also appeared to be pried. Officers could not determine if anything had been taken from the box, which was returned to the bulk post mail center.

Shoplifting suspect assaults employees, lies to police: At 12:09 p.m. on April 11 at 1900 S. 314th St., officers responded to a Wal-Mart loss prevention employee’s report of a suspect struggling after being detained for shoplifting. An employee was injured during the struggle, and the suspect provided a fake name to police officers during their interview. The suspect’s identity was determined during a fingerprint check and he was cited for provided false information and assault.

Man pepper-sprayed and robbed, vows “street justice”: At 11:07 p.m. on April 11 in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway South, police responded to a call from a male who said he’d been pepper-sprayed and robbed. The male told officers that he knew who robbed him, but he would not provide further information. The male told officers that “police couldn’t help him” and “he would get ‘street justice.'” The man declined help and would not provide anything further.

Exerciser finds thief in car: At 11:31 p.m. on April 11 at 35009 Enchanted Pkwy. S., a victim reported exiting L.A. Fitness to find his vehicle’s alarm sounding. The victim said he ran to his vehicle and found an unidentified man leaving it and getting into the driver’s seat of a black SUV. The victim said he saw his backpack and laptop in the SUV passenger seat, and he was able to retrieve the backpack before the suspect “sped away” with his laptop and the phone in the laptop bag. The victim did not see a license plate and could not describe the suspect.

Woman attempts suicide with infant nearby: At 12:10 a.m. on April 12 in the 2900 block of 21st Place South, a woman called 911 and reported she’d ingested about 26 alprazolam tablets with the intention of committing suicide. The woman told police that she thought “f*** it” and, “My dad is better off without a daughter.” She further told police that she had scissors with which she was cutting herself. Arriving officers found the woman’s 4-month-old daughter asleep in the same room as the woman. The woman was involuntarily committed.

Woman holding child assaulted by boyfriend: At 6:15 a.m. on April 12 in the 2600 block of Southwest 351st Place, the victim called police to report that her boyfriend had physically assaulted her while she was holding their 11-month-old child. She stated that she’d tried to call 911 but the boyfriend took away her cell phone; she left her residence with the 11-month-old and contacted police from elsewhere. Police arrested the boyfriend and booked him into SCORE jail on charges of assault, interfering with reporting a domestic violence, and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Drunk man falls off scooter three times, is committed: At 8:15 p.m. on April 13 in the 2500 block of South Gateway Center Plaza, a witness called police to say he’d found a man lying on the ground after falling off his electric scooter. The witness told arriving police that he’d seen the same scene twice before they got there. The man who had fallen said he’d consumed three bottles of wine. Officers observed that the man had urinated on himself and appeared to have injured his right arm, and officers familiar with the man noted that he had medical issues and alcohol problems. The man was involuntarily committed.

Kids found after sneaking out: At 2:13 a.m. on April 13 in the 2000 block of South 288th Street, police were dispatched to a welfare check involving two females walking in the middle of the road. Arriving officers determined both were 12 years old. Police transported the girls to their homes and spoke to both their mothers, both of whom said they did not know the girls had snuck out.

Historical Society misused: At 1:07 p.m. on April 14 at 3645 S. 312th St., police investigated an unauthorized overnight use of the Historical Society’s building. Tables and the porch had been used, and the unknown person(s) removed the cover of an outlet that was once there but had been removed due to unwanted use. The person(s) consumed a case of Corona beer and smashed the empty bottles on the property.

Man steals surveillance cameras from church: At 12:23 p.m. on April 15 at 5015 SW Dash Point Road, a Lifeway Church employee contacted police to report that an unknown male stole two outside surveillance cameras worth $160. The camera had recorded a white male, 25 to 30 years old with a receding hairline and wearing a mask, removing the cameras. A neighbor witnessed the man running behind the church but told officers she’d seen him from a distance and wouldn’t be able to identify him.

Husband “smears dog feces” on wife during argument: At 5:46 p.m. on April 15 in the 29000 block of 18th Avenue South, a woman reported that her husband had “smeared dog feces in her eyes and all over her face during a verbal argument.” The victim was not injured, and the husband was arrested without incident.

Naked man pistol-whipped by woman’s boyfriend: At 8:38 a.m. on April 16 in the 1900 block of Southwest Campus Drive, police were called for reports of a naked man behind a building asking people to call police. Upon arrival, police determined that a different male had caught his girlfriend and the naked male having an affair in their apartment. The boyfriend had retrieved a firearm and pistol-whipped the naked male in the head “several times, causing deep lacerations.” A shot was also fired during the incident but did not strike the victim. The naked male escaped by jumping from a second-story window. Officers arrested the boyfriend on felony assault, felony harassment and unlawful possession of a firearm. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
