A Tacoma man was sentenced for an August 2022 Federal Way hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
On July 3, Deshawn Philicisimo Green, 29, was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison for a variety of charges, including vehicular homicide.
According to charging documents, Green received a 116-month sentence for the vehicular homicide charge stemming from a Aug. 1, 2022, incident in Federal Way where Titus Lee Taylor, 44, stopped to make a left turn, but Green was not paying attention, and Green rear-ended Taylor.
The incident took place at 21st Avenue SW and SW 356th Street. According to documents, Taylor was ejected from his motorcycle and was taken to a hospital, but died two days later. After the crash, Green exited his vehicle, shook Taylor, who was unconscious, and then another person began to perform CPR on Taylor before Green fled the scene on foot.
Documents state that Taylor suffered a crushed spinal neck injury, which also damaged blood vessels that transport blood to the brain. The day after the crash, Taylor was not receiving blood to his brain and was not expected to survive. He then died on Aug. 3, 2022.
According to Taylor’s obituary, he was a “jack of all trades,” an excellent cook, mechanically gifted and a dependable hard worker. Taylor enjoyed riding his motorcycle or driving his truck, where he would listen to oldies. Additionally, he loved the San Francisco 49ers and the L.A. Lakers.
According to documents, the causing vehicle was a Chevrolet Blazer, which was linked to Green through items found inside with his DNA and fingerprints on them. Additionally, the vehicle belonged to Green’s girlfriend, but he was known to drive it, and witnesses of the crash identified Green as the driver.
Green was initially charged with only one count of felony hit-and-run, but after a plea deal, the charge was amended to vehicular homicide. According to documents, in the plea deal, Green additionally pleaded guilty to two counts of driving while under the influence, one count of violation of the uniform controlled substances act, one count of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. The charges, in addition to the vehicular homicide, were accrued after the Aug. 1, 2022, crash and before he was arrested for the vehicular homicide charge while Green had a warrant out for his arrest.
Green’s highest sentence was a 120-month sentence for the violation of the uniform controlled substances act. According to documents, that charge stems from an Oct. 16, 2022, Pierce County incident where Green sold methamphetamine and fentanyl to a man who died due to a drug overdose the day he bought the drugs from Green.
According to documents, with the maximum offender score, Green received the highest sentences he could for the vehicular homicide charge and the violation of the uniform controlled substances act charge.
