Man finds dumpster full of mail | Federal Way crime blotter

At 3:08 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 34000 block of Pacific Highway South, a business owner reported finding a bag in one of his dumpsters full of other people's mail.

Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

• Business owner finds strange bag in trash: At 3:08 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 34000 block of Pacific Highway South, a business owner reported finding a bag in one of his dumpsters full of other people’s mail. According to the report, the bag contained mail meant for at least 20 other people. Video surveillance captured a white van dumping the mail, but was unable to capture a license plate number. The mail was turned over to a USPS postal inspector.

• When worlds collide: At 10:01 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 34000 block of 16th Avenue South, two men were in a fight. According to the report, the first man became angry when he observed his girlfriend of two years kissing a co-worker at her work. He assaulted the man she kissed. After the altercation, it was discovered that the woman had a two-month-long relationship with the co-worker as well. The two men declined to press charges against each other.

• Clerk and witnesses detain armed robber: At 3:49 p.m. Jan. 15 in the 28000 block of Military Road South, a man attempted to rob a store at gunpoint. According to the report, the clerk and others in the store scuffled with the wannabe armed robber, and were able to detain him until the police arrived.

• Fraudulent prescriptions: At 5:52 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 33000 block of 21st Avenue SW, a pharmacy manager contacted police to inform them that 15 fraudulent prescriptions had been submitted to the pharmacy, all from the same person. According to the report, the pharmacy manager was going to contact police when the suspect returned to get the prescriptions.

• Care home loses resident: At 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 1900 block of South 374th Place, a care home reported that one of its residents had gone missing. According to the report, police conducted an area search for the man, but were unable to locate him. Employees at the care home believed the man may have been trying to return to a previous care home he lived in, located in Seattle.

• Man sells car, goes to bar, finds out the cash is fake: At 11:10 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 1800 block of South 340th Street, a man reported he had sold a vehicle to another man for $300 cash. According to the report, the seller then went to a bar with that cash, and discovered that the $300 in cash was all counterfeit bills. The seller only knew the suspect as Jeff. The report indicates the man known as Jeff was able to be located and arrested.

• Video game thieves get busted: At 2:34 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 34000 block of 16th Avenue South, two individuals were seen stealing eight video games from Wal-Mart. According to the report, the two suspects took the games to a nearby GameStop store and sold them back to the store. Six of the eight games were able to be recovered.

• Attempted shoe theft: At 2:22 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 1800 block of South Commons, a suspect was caught and arrested attempting to steal $341.90 worth of shoes from Famous Footwear.

• Man assaulted by large group: At 6:16 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 2200 block of South 308th Street, two men were sitting in a vehicle in a driveway. According to the report, something was thrown at the vehicle while they were sitting in it. The men exited the vehicle, and confronted a group of three women and seven men who were on the street. The owner of the vehicle asked if the group had thrown anything at the vehicle, at which time four of the men from the street group assaulted the owner of the vehicle.

• Man attempts to pass fake check: At 7:50 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 1200 block of South 320th Street, an unknown male suspect attempted to cash a fraudulent check. According to the report, the suspect fled when the transaction was denied, and police were unable to locate him.

• Things not to do with $20,000 in outstanding warrants: At 8:19 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 31000 block of 2nd Lane SW, a woman contacted police about an unknown person asking her to let him into her residence. According to the report, the woman believed it was an ex-boyfriend with whom she has a no-contact order. During her call to police, the woman gave her full information to dispatch, at which time it was discovered the woman had $20,000 in outstanding warrants out of Kent. The woman was arrested and transferred over to Kent police.

• Man tries to steal champagne: At 9:23 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 2100 block of SW 336th Street, a man was detained and arrested for attempting to shoplift $97.98 worth of Moet champagne.
