A man was hit by a car and died the evening of Nov. 17 in Federal Way, but police say no criminal activity appears to have occurred.
According to the King County Medical Examiner’s decedents list and the Federal Way Police Department, at about 6 p.m. Nov. 17, Renard Jones, 28, died in the 28800 block of Pacific Highway South. According to the medical examiner’s office, Jones’ cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, his manner of death was accident, and the location of his death was in the roadway.
Jones was hit by a car near the intersection of South 288th Street and Pacific Highway South. According to Federal Way police Cmdr. Kyle Buchanan, despite first aid efforts by police and medical personnel, Jones died from his injuries.
“Witnesses reported seeing the pedestrian standing in the roadway prior to being hit by the car. Our major accident investigation team responded to the scene,” Buchanan said. “The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.”
Buchanan stated that this incident is still an active investigation, but as of now, the nature of the incident does not appear to be criminal. Buchanan said that Jones’s standing in a busy roadway during hours of darkness and not in a crosswalk was likely the cause of the collision.
