Longtime Federal Way volunteer Bob Kellogg dies

City honored his community involvement by lowering the flag on South 320th Street.

Federal Way resident Bob Kellogg died on Sept. 26, and the mayor’s office honored his community involvement by lowering the flag on South 320th Street.

“There would be no flag on 320th if it had not been for Bob’s vision and advocacy for the flag,” said Mayor Jim Ferrell in a press release. “The official downtown flag-raising ceremony along 320th on November 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. to honor veterans in our community was Bog Kellogg’s idea.

“During the early 1990s, Bob served as a board member for the Brooklake Community Center property and worked hard to ensure the preservation of the building.”

Kellogg was known for his numerous contributions to the community, including his service as a Federal Way Parks Commissioner, the Mayor’s Veterans Committee, a Kiwanis Club of Federal Way member, and various other committees.

“Bob Kellogg’s significant impact on the community and those he served will be long remembered,” said Mayor Ferrell. “Our condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. He was a friend of mine and a friend of Federal Way’s. We will miss him.”

Kellogg also penned multiple letters to the editor in the Mirror, sharing his thoughts on everything from public art to weighing in on the type of housing that should be built in Federal Way.

“He was a good citizen, volunteer and friend of Federal Way,” said resident Margaret Nelson in an email to the Mirror. “We need more people like him in the world as he was unselfish about his volunteering and trying to make this a better community for all.”
