Preschool for low-income families

The Federal Way School District Head Start and the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) are accepting applications for the 2008-2009 preschool programs.

The intention of the program is to provide free preschool for low-income families.

To qualify for the program, children must be 4 years old by Aug. 31 of the upcoming school year, with limited space available for 3-year-old children, said Eileen Borne, ECEAP Federal Way coordinator.

Borne said that families must qualify under federal income guidelines and be at or below the federal poverty level.

The preschool programs provide children with hot meals, snacks, field trips and health screening as well as activities that are geared toward building self-esteem, together with social and physical skills.

Linda del Pilar, Federal Way Head Start Coordinator, said that the program is also focused on family support.

“We provide parents with lots of training opportunities to help them find jobs,” del Pilar said.

To receive an application, call the Federal Way School District information line at (253) 945-2397 and leave a message with name, telephone address and child’s date of birth. Also contact Eileen Borne at Federal Way ECEAP at (253) 945-4581 or Linda del Pilar at (253) 945-5882.
