Simon Struthers, Future Business Leaders of America chapter president and a sophomore at Federal Way High School, placed second in the state in Desktop Programming Applications at the FBLA State Conference in Spokane last month.

Simon will travel to Atlanta June 27-July 3 to compete at the FBLA National Conference representing Federal Way Public Schools. Simon also placed ninth at the state conference in Intro to IT this year. And he received his Microsoft Office Specialist Master certificate on April 27, so according to his father, Simon is “well on his way to becoming a real software geek.”

It will be Simon’s second time competing at FBLA Nationals after he competed last year in Chicago.

The second Federal Way FBLA State competitor, Kaleigha Lang, FBLA Chapter Treasurer, earned a spot competing at the state level her first year in FBLA. Kaleigha worked hard and enjoyed her first time competing at FBLA State in the Impromptu Speaking and Entertainment and Sports Management events.

Federal Way High School will host a fundraiser Friday, May 27, from 2-3 p.m. to help raise funds for the upcoming FBLA student competitions. It’s a Goodwill Fundraiser, so the community is asked to start compiling gently used household items and clothing to donate at the school.
