Galland becomes fifth challenger for vacant District 30 House seat

From staff reports:

Jerry Galland, a resident of unincorporated King County in the Federal Way area, announced on June 2 that he will run for District 30 State Representative position 2. The position was recently vacated by Skip Priest, who will run for mayor of Federal Way.

In 2007, voters rejected Federal Way’s attempt to annex an area of unincorporated King County east of Interstate 5; Galland formed a committee to help defeat the annexation effort. In 2009, he launched a petition drive – but did not get enough signatures – for a referendum on State Bill 5808, a law that gives municipalities the power to annex without a vote from residents in the annexation area.

Galland’s name has yet to appear on the Public Disclosure Commission’s website. Candidates who have filed to run for the vacant Legislature seat include charity co-founder Carol Gregory, Milton Mayor Katrina Asay, local businessman Roger Flygare and Federal Way School Board member Ed Barney. The filing deadline is June 11.
