Graduation ceremonies for Federal Way Public Schools district seniors will take place outdoors at Memorial Stadium this year.

In previous years, FWPS seniors have received their diplomas at the Tacoma Dome and the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s graduates donned their cap and gowns for recorded ceremonies at their high schools that were later aired virtually.

The Federal Way Memorial Stadium allows for appropriate social distancing, but there will be a limited number of entrance tickets allowed per graduating senior, the district said.

In line with current safety guidelines, the district is “working toward making graduation as close as it can be to a typical graduation with an in-person experience,” according to their website.

Graduation dates, times and senior activities leading up to the ceremonies are to come later in spring. Similar to last year, individual high schools will host senior parades and the district will also be purchasing yard signs for graduating seniors of each school.

Memorial Stadium is located behind Federal Way High School at 1300 S. 308th St. with free parking available.
