The Federal Way Police Department sent four officers to assist with President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
On Jan. 20, four FWPD officers assisted with security on the parade route for Trump’s presidential inauguration. FWPD Cmdr. Kyle Buchanan said they were honored to help fellow law enforcement partners during the large-scale event.
“FWPD’s participation was as part of the Valley Civil Disturbance Unit (VCDU), which is a multi-agency team. VCDU also used this opportunity to learn how to manage large-scale events,” Buchanan said. “The World Cup will be coming to Seattle in the near future and is expected to bring large crowds with it.”
Buchanan said agencies from across the country were invited to assist with the event. He said the FWPD agreed to assist early 2024, long before anyone knew who would be elected president. He said their participation was in the interest of preserving public safety.
Regarding costs, Buchanan said the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia reimbursed FWPD for travel, salary and per diem expenses as part of the agreement. He said FWPD was fully reimbursed for all expenses. The officers who went were Lt. Nicholas Peterson, Corporal Ramon Franco, Corporal Eric Reyna and Officer Michael Wells.
