Federal Way residents can place their natural holiday trees at the curb for free pickup on their neighborhood collection day during the weeks of Dec. 29 and Jan. 5. Residents do not need to have regular garbage or yard waste service to participate in this free program.
Trees should be placed at the curb, near (but not blocking) yard waste carts by 7 a.m. on the neighborhood collection day. Trees must be less than 6 feet tall to fit in the truck. Trees in excess of 6 feet tall should be cut in half. No artificial, flocked or fire-proofed trees will be accepted in this free program as they cannot be composted and are considered garbage.
Multi-family complexes within city limits are also eligible for this free program. Property managers should call Waste Management at 800-592-9995 to sign up for the two pickups on Jan. 2 and 9.
