Mirror staff reports:

A fire was reported at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverstone Apartments in Federal Way.

The fire started in a child’s bedroom on a first-floor unit at the apartment complex, 27314 24th Ave. S., located off Star Lake Road near Mark Twain Elementary School.

The fire caused extensive damage to four apartment units, one of which was vacant. No one was injured. A dog was killed and nine residents were displaced by the fire, according to the Kent Fire Department.

South King Fire and Rescue and the Valley Regional Fire Authority also responded to the scene. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread to several of the apartments in the two-story building, reports said.

As of June 13, the cause of the fire is undetermined. Fire crews reported no signs that the fire was set intentionally.

The American Red Cross of King and Kitsap counties assisted families living in apartment units. The Red Cross provided food, clothing, shelter and other immediate needs.

It is unclear whether the apartments had any working smoke alarms to alert the residents, according to the Kent department.
