Federal Way’s proposed budget cuts: Last public town hall is Sept. 30

Wilson is proposing laying off 39 full-time employees, including 18 commissioned police officers and employees from nearly every other city department.

The City of Federal Way will hold its last town hall to discuss the 2011-2012 budget with the public at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at City Hall, 33325 8th Ave. S.

The city is facing a $9 million budget gap ($4.5 million each of the two years). The city council has instructed city manager Brian Wilson to present a balanced budget in October. Wilson is proposing laying off 39 full-time employees, including 18 commissioned police officers and employees from nearly every other city department.

The public is invited to weigh in on Wilson’s proposed budget before it is presented to the city council.

Wilson and the council will work through the budget from October until Dec. 7, when the final version of the budget is expected to be adopted by the council.
