Federal Way woman suspected of DUI involved in injury crash

The injured 65-year-old victim was sent to Tacoma General, but the suspect was not injured and was booked into jail.

A Federal Way woman is suspected of being under the influence in a crash on Interstate-5 near 272nd Street that has left a man injured.

On April 17, a 27-year-old Federal Way woman was arrested by Washington State Patrol on suspicion of vehicular assault, felony hit and run, and driving under the influence after crashing into a 65-year-old Tacoma man. The woman was booked into King County jail.

WSP reports that this incident occurred April 17 at 12:09 a.m., on I-5 near 272nd Street when the suspect, who was in a 2006 Chrysler, ran into the victim, who was in a 2021 Kia Seltos. Both vehicles were totaled, according to WSP.

According to WSP, the suspect was traveling northbound on I-5 in an unknown lane when they lost control and hit the barrier on the right side. According to WSP, the suspect then rolled backwards into lanes of traffic and hit the victim’s vehicle.

According to WSP, the suspect’s vehicle then hit the barrier on the right side of the highway and came to rest on the wrong side of the highway on the right shoulder. WSP reports that after being hit, the victim’s vehicle came to rest in lanes two and three, and lanes one and two were then closed for a total of three hours and thirty-six minutes.

The victim was injured and transported to Tacoma General Hospital. The suspect was not injured.
