Federal Way residents can meet Community Development chief finalists

Federal Way residents are invited to a special reception to meet the five finalists for the city's Director of Community Development opening. The reception will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, in the City Council chambers at Federal Way City Hall (33325 8th Ave. S.).

Federal Way residents are invited to a special reception to meet the five finalists for the city’s Director of Community Development opening. The reception will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, in the City Council chambers at Federal Way City Hall (33325 8th Ave. S.).

The director manages the Community Development Department, which is responsible for administering the city’s land use, subdivision and environmental codes, building codes and inspection, permitting and code enforcement, as well as the Community Services division.

The Community Development Director reports directly to the mayor and is a member of the mayor’s management team. The salary range for the position is $120,000-$150,000

The finalists are:

• Brian Davis, Community Development Director for the city of Roseburg, Oregon, since 2009

• Eric Day, Community Development Director for the city of Coos Bay, Oregon, since 2013

• Robert Grumbach, Director of Development Services for the city of Medina, Washington, since 2008

• Julia Hajduk, Community Development Director for the city of Sherwood, Oregon, since 2012

• Fernando Leiva, Development Services Manager/Principal Planner for the City of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, since 2013

The reception will offer residents a chance to meet the finalists in an informal setting, along with Mayor Jim Ferrell and members of the Federal Way City Council. The reception will follow a full day of interviews for the candidates.

In the days following the interviews, Ferrell will make his selection and forward that person’s name to the City Council for confirmation.
