Federal Way Police Department welcomes new officers

Four new officers join the force; corporal promoted.

The Federal Way Police Department recently welcomed several officers to the force.

Officer Scott Bradley was sworn in to the department in early April. Bradley previously worked as a deputy sheriff for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He also served as a combat medic, infantry squad leader and infantryman in the Army National Guard, as well as a clerk for the Department of Veteran Affairs VA Medical Center and as a security forces sergeant for the Air National Guard.

Bradley earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Eastern Washington University.

In addition, the department promoted Cpl. Jed Tan to lieutenant in April. Tan has been with the department for 13 years and worked on every shift of patrol.

Over the course of his career here, Lt. Tan has worked on collateral assignments to include Total Station, Advanced Collision Investigation Team, being a Firearms Instructor, a Field Training Officer and a Team Leader on Valley SWAT. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington.

Tan is “constantly seeking opportunities to engage with the community in his role as a commissioned officer, as well as in his personal life,” according to the department. Lt. Tan is a proud husband and father to his three young boys.

In March, the department welcomed Officer Brady Avestruz and Officer Thayson Galvao.

Avestruz previously served as a Federal Reserve law enforcement officer, as well as an armed protective security officer with the Federal Protective Service (formerly the Department of Homeland Security). He also has served in the US Army Reserves since 2019.

Officer Galvao earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro where he studied language and literature in English and Portuguese. He speaks three langauges. Galvao previously worked as a correctional officer for the Washington State Department of Corrections. He also held roles as a fire extinguisher technician, as executive protection/security for Arsec Group and as a security guard for Mr. C Beverly Hills.
