A man is recovering from a gunshot wound after he attempted to sell an item to someone at a duplex, located at 33000 22 Place South, last night.

Officers responded to the listed location on a report of a possible gunshot victim. An anonymous caller stated she believed someone had been shot, but all involved parties fled the scene, according to Cathy Schrock, a spokeswoman with the Federal Way Police Department.

Officers surrounded the residence and called for the homeowners to exit the building. A female exited the residence and confirmed that her husband had been shot and was inside the residence. The husband was able to walk out of the house and confirmed that he had been shot in the back, according to police reports.

Police said the victim met a man as his residence to sell him a cell phone, but the suspect attempted to steal the phone and run away. The victim followed the suspect, caught up with him and the two men fought.

Fire responded and eventually transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The victim stated that he was selling the suspects a cell phone when one of them tried to steal it and flee. The victim caught the suspect, a struggle ensued, and the suspect fired several shots. One of the shots struck the victim in the back.

The victim then called 911. He told police he was selling a cell phone, but interviews with other witnesses revealed that the sale was not of a cell phone but of a firearm, however, that was not confirmed by the victim, according to Schrock.

Police say several witnesses and the victim are working with police to identify suspects.
