Federal Way child, Seattle man die in unrelated violent incidents

5-year-old girl and 20-year-old man killed afternoon of May 29 in Federal Way

Two violent deaths occurred Thursday afternoon, May 29 in Federal Way. Federal Way police are investigating the deaths of a 5-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man in unrelated incidents.

An arrest has been made for the death of the child, but no suspect has been located for the death of the 20-year-old man.

At approximately 1:02 p.m. officers responded to a call about a 5-year-old girl who was reported to be “in medical distress,” according to the Federal Way Police Department.

Officers arrived at the Glen Park Apartments, 952 SW Campus Dr., and began performing emergency first aid on the child, who showed signs of being recently assaulted, according to their observations.

The child was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after paramedics arrived on scene, but despite efforts to save her, she died at the hospital.

The child’s 29-year-old father was arrested for investigation of murder and booked into King County jail after being taken into custody and interviewed by detectives, according to police.

This is the second death at the Glen Park apartments this year, the first being a homicide in February. Jermaine Quintel Guidry, 23, of Tacoma was fatally shot Feb. 16.

Officers became aware of the second incident on May 29 when they responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 3:36 p.m. at the Cove Apartments, in the 33100 block of First Avenue SW.

Upon arrival officers located a 20-year-old Hispanic man from Seattle with a gunshot wound, according to police. Officers and medics attempted lifesaving aid but the man’s injury was ultimately fatal.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident after responding to the scene and are asking for the public’s help.
