Federal Way celebrates Juneteenth

Events held Saturday, June 18 in honor of the holiday.

Events were held in the city of Federal Way to celebrate Juneteenth over the weekend.

The city raised the Juneteenth flag with a ceremony featuring a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, a history of Juneteenth, musical performances, a poetry reading and more on Friday, June 17.

In Town Square Park and at the Federal Way Farmers Market, dozens of local businesses and organizations gathered on Saturday.

Booths and attendees included the Federal Way Diversity Commission, Federal Way Black Collective, Love Grace and Peace, Phenomenal She, Game of Life, Youth for Life, Progress Pushers, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Youth Violence prevention Initiative, POP Positive Outcomes, the Multi-Service Center, and the Federal Way Boys & Girls Club, among others. A reggae steel drum band also performed at the market on Saturday.
