South King Fire and Rescue firefighters are responding to a commercial fire on Pacific Highway South.

Assistant Chief Ed Plumlee said Awards by Wilson, Sin and Skin Tattoo and Body Piercing and the unoccupied business All Martial Arts Supplies in the 29000 block of Pacific Highway South have sustained extensive damage. At this time, firefighters believe the fire originated in Awards by Wilson, as the business’s basement received “extensive damage.”

Firefighters are reporting no injuries at this time. Pacific Highway South will be closed for at least two more hours as they work to extinguish the fire and investigate the cause.

At 6:02 a.m. a call came in from an employee at the tattoo shop, stating he smelled smoke. Plumlee said the man grabbed a fire extinguisher to attempt to put it out but he “couldn’t really do anything,” except grab the cat from the neighboring business.

Pacific Highway South will be closed from South 288th Street to South 294th Street until firefighters have cleared the area. Drivers should use an alternate route.
