Federal Way-based FUSION names volunteers of the year

Friends United to Shelter the Indigent, Oppressed and Needy celebrated all of the organization’s volunteers with a volunteer appreciation party on Dec. 10 amid the festive atmosphere of the FUSION Décor Boutique.

Local band Deep Six performed music and Marlene’s Market and Deli catered food.

Several individuals were recognized for their long-standing work.

Dee Askew, on the organization’s housing transition team for several years, was presented the 2014 Gerry Storrar Volunteer of the Year Award.

Kathy Ward, the organization’s volunteer coordinator for the last six years and a unit manager, was also presented a Gerry Storrar Volunteer of the Year Award.

Linda Lee, the organization’s transition team manager, introduced all members of the transition team and acknowledged their hard work and dedication, evident in the eight-unit turnovers during 2014.

A “Moroccan Mystique” memory book was presented to Margie Jordan and Cindy Piennett (in absentia), as a thank you for their leadership during last August’s fundraiser. Over 4,000 volunteer hours were dedicated to producing this summer event.

Also, the President’s Award was presented to Judy Free for her work on the board of directors for the last 10 years and her work as a unit manager. Free is currently the organization’s chair of public relations.
