One of the responding officers reported seeing a young male gesturing his hands up in the air as if egging on a fight.

Officers interviewed a 50-year-old man, who said that his 15-year-old son was robbed of his cell phone and gold necklace at the nearby Denny’s a week prior. He said he was at The Commons mall with his son, when his son pointed to a known 15-year-old male and told him that he was the one who robbed him. The father parked his car near Red Robin and got out armed with a golf club and his cane and confronted the teen.

The father relayed to police that he threw the golf club at the teen but missed. He said he returned to his jeep and called 911. He initially denied that he pointed a gun at the teen but later admitted he brandished a loaded gun during the confrontation. He said he placed the gun in his wife’s car fearing that he “would do something stupid” and she drove away with it.

Police contacted his wife, who brought the .45 caliber handgun to the police station. The gun held about 11-13 rounds in the magazine. She told police her husband called her and said he and their son were going to “meet the guy who robbed” his son at the mall. She said she did not want anything that her husband was doing to affect her job, so she left the parking lot with the gun.

South King Fire and Rescue treated a cut to the teen’s face. Both the father and the teen believed to have robbed the man’s son were arrested.
