An alleged domestic violence incident between an 18-year-old man and his ex-girlfriend led to the man being fatally shot at the Sunset Three Twenty Apartments.
According to the Federal Way Police Department, at about 1:22 a.m. May 17, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Sunset Three Twenty Apartments in the 32100 block of 18th Avenue Southwest and discovered an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound. According to the department, officers rendered aid until medics took over lifesaving efforts, but he ultimately died.
According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, the deceased was Anthony Raul Arellano, 18, who died at 32146 18th Avenue Southwest near building 32. The office reports Arellano’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and his manner of death was homicide.
According to the department, while on scene, officers discovered that an 11-year-old in a neighboring apartment had been struck by a stray bullet while sleeping. The department stated that the child was transported to Harborview Medical Center and is reportedly in stable condition.
“At this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the incident originated as a domestic violence situation involving the victim and his ex-girlfriend,” according to the department. “There was an altercation between the two parties that ultimately resulted in the shooting.”
According to the department, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrival. FWPD detectives are actively investigating the incident. The department stated that Arellano and the suspect are known to each other, and there is no known danger to the public.
